dorcas is my muse.

(no subject)

Well, I was going to start off on a good note, but unfortunately, I opened my email first thing in the morning and learned that my good friend is going BACK to Iraq after being there for almost a year and being home for a few months.  It makes me so sad.  He has a wife and three kids at home, and he never gets to see them.  The last child was born while he was in Iraq.  I just pray this is the last time he has to go back, that he'll come home soon and stay home.

That aside, I had a very nice weekend.  After working so much last week, it was a nice getaway and a good chance to relax.  Scott and I drove to Carmel early Saturday afternoon and returned on Monday afternoon, as Scott extended our reservation at the inn for Labor Day.  We had a great time walking around, eating at lovely restaurants, getting quite tipsy off of spirits at one of the bars and from champagne in our room, and relaxing at the beach.  We even rented boogie-boards on Sunday afternoon, which was really fun, especially watching Scott try to stay on top of his board.  The weather was great, a little on the cool side, but that's to be expected of a town on the beach.  Our inn was about eight blocks away from the beach too, so we didn't have to drive.  And we still had time for Scott to get his reading done for class and for me to write some letters and do some reading.  When we came back, we went with Jordan to Tapestry & Talent, a big faire they hold on Labor Day weekend each year in downtown San Jose.  I've been going there every year since I was a kid.  It wasn't too hot, and we were there for a few hours, eating good food (mostly fried, but I tried to avoid that), talking to people who manned booths that were set up to provide information about organizations, looking through the other booths that sold all kinds of goodies: house signs, jewelry, clothing, tents, windchimes, paintings, ornate pens, you name it.  Scott bought me a really pretty ear cuff, which I am currently wearing, against my usual habit of not wearing it if it doesn't match the one I already have on) and a stuffed gecko lizard to match the other two I have at home.  Then we crash-landed at home and watched television for a few hours.  And grilled up some cheeseburgers and french fries.  Mmm.

Well, that's about it for now.  Hope you all had a nice weekend!  Let the work begin!
